Under the supervision of General Directorate of Detention in the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG), sponsored and contributed by Barzani Charity Foundation (BCF), the project of opening libraries across the detentions in the Kurdistan Region announced.
On July 24, 2019, as part of an initiative by the BCF, the foundation inaugurated a library in the Directorate of Adult & Women Reform – Erbil, which provided 5 thousand books for the prisoners.
“We hope the libraries at the prisons are used beyond reading and become research centers for not only the inmates but researchers and universities to create a link between scholars and inmates who are willing to learn,” Musa Ahmed, the head of BCF, said during a press conference.
Mr. Ahmad also added, “We, as BCF, are delighted to take part in such great projects. It is one of our foundation’s missions to build a solid bridge between the rich, benefactors and poor people.”
The head of BCF explained, “We promise to continue conducting more projects like this because we are meant to serve and assist people. The current situation in our region and receiving enormous displaces and refugees affected our foundation’s plans and projects in such areas. For the meantime, we are required to focus on humanitarian projects and provide assistance to displaces and refugees who fled to the Kurdistan region.”
